UNI-LEVEL CONVERSION

Utilizing the chassis, components, wiring and vibe from a 1950s tape machine amplifier, the UNI-LEVEL conversion is a period-faithful recreation of one of the early classic vari-mu tube compressors produced by GE and Collins. Preceding the more well known (and near direct copy) Gates Sta-Level, the Uni-Level delivers quintessential vari-mu tube compression at

Capable of compression ratios of 1.6:1 to 5:1 through threshold control adjustment, lower thresholds provide milder compression while higher thresholds provide higher ratios and a sharper knee. Attack time is fixed while release is adjustable through fixed steps.

Tube layout is composed of matched pairs of 6BA6 and 6V6 tubes. Due to cost and scarcity of NOS and new production 6386 tubes, a "T-Bar" with two matched 6BA6 is employed instead, providing identical gain reduction characteristics compared to 6386 tubes.
Controls and Functionality
Gain -
Adjusts input volume for more or less compression
Threshold (Equal) -
adjusts point of compression onset, altering ratio
Output (Monitor) - Attenuates signals after compression, post output transformer
DUAL / AVG - Adjusts compression release between two stage (fast + slow) release and single slow release
