Inspired by the dust and chaos of an audio repair dungeon while servicing equipment for Chicago’s best vintage music store, our work embraces the soul of storied analog gear. Preserving the methods early engineers and studio technicians used to produce coveted tones and keep fabled equipment in operation for nearly a century at this point, AMPTEK carries forward the standards from the golden age of recording equipment design.
Embracing simple yet proven circuits that stand the test of time, we encourage running signals hot, pushing tubes, transistors and transformers to get the magic out of analog equipment. Using a high-quality mixture of vintage and current production components paired with rugged and serviceable construction, our equipment embodies a “New Old School” approach.
Resenting the ever growing pile of e-waste, in lieu of making mass-manufacturable, but near impossible to repair equipment, our gear is designed to keep chugging along decades down the road, constructed with long-term serviceability in mind. Regardless of convenience and cost, in the realm of audio equipment that spends decades in studios, it feels irresponsible to create something that, come component failure, physical damage or needing basic servicing, ends up another piece in the graveyard.
With regards to servicing vintage equipment, using high quality components and working as cleanly as possible, getting equipment to look as it did coming off of the assembly line all those years ago is something we strive to achieve – if an axial capacitor or carbon composition resistor was used originally and needs replacing, we try as such to keep it authentic as possible.
While the current zeitgeist embraces digital, modeling, making things mini, providing immediate convenience and jam-packed features (all of which have their own place), our equipment aims to be that which we get excited by and respect as technicians, recording engineers, and sonic shapers. Just like rust never sleeps, analog never dies. Let it rip, crank the gain and get the sound you’ve been chasing.
